Leading yourself means applying these same principles of leadership to your role as a leader and your life. You, too, need a compelling vision and a strategy for reaching it. You need a team supporting you. You need results, as well as a sense of contribution and purpose. The difference is that personal leadership doesn’t just make for better business, it makes for better leadership. It makes for a better you.”

Some of the basic rules we have to follow in order to improve our Self Leadership are:

1.     Have a philosophy of life. Try to See “the End”. Start to live a life of choice considering your intentions. Set the goals and the objectives. Don’t forget that “meaning of life” goals affect your lifestyle outside of work too. Knowing what you want out of life, figuring out what success means to you specifically, articulating your goals, knowing that those goals are part of your purpose for being alive, these things are the essence of personal leadership.

2.     Open your mind to values, family, relationships, and communication. Take care of your life, your health, your career and your relationships (body, mind, spirit, emotions, according to Stephen Covey The 7 habits of Highly Effective people).

3.     Don’t react immediately. The time of reaction is yours. Step back, think before reaction. Being mindful and manage emotions. (Stephen Covey again ).

4.     Believe to yourself (High Self Esteem, Self Confidence, Self-Belief).Self is the magic word, self-awareness, self-goal setting, self-motivation are the necessary ingredients.

5.     Take initiatives, together with creativity move the world. Never stand still, do more than is required of you. Consider any opportunity, share your ideas, be a team player and always be prepared.

6.     Be an optimist person, reject pessimism. Negativity must be an unknown word. Avoid negatively thinking people.

7.     Take actions and seek for a feedback, don’t be afraid of accountability. Positive criticism is also your weapon.

8.     Communicate authentically to achieve win/win and care for and about people. Listen first and after speak, ask questions.

9.     Be a lifelong learner. Surround yourself with mentors and people smarter than you. Seek to be continually inspired by something.

10.  Take decisions, Learn to love ideas and experiments. Turn them into pilot programs that preface impulsive decisions.

In conclusion: We have a lot of benefits following Personal Leadership. We are more efficient, productive, social, result oriented people. We are very well on time management and experience a life of joy and fulfillment. There is a strong connection between Personal Leadership and Self Control.  It’s a very strong on, actually all is about Self-Control. It is the ability to subdue our impulses in order to achieve longer-term goals. Rather than responding to immediate impulses, we can plan, evaluate alternative actions, and, often enough avoid doing things we’ll later regret.

Self-control is a key component of emotional intelligence. It’s someone’s control over his or her own impulses, emotions and actions.

The ability to exert self-control is typically called willpower. It is what allows us to direct our attention, and it underlies all kinds of achievement.

Don’t forget, Control is not a leadership, management is not leadership, Leadership is Leadership. If you seek to lead, invest at least 50% of your time in Leading yourself….your own purpose, ethics, principles, motivation, contact (Dee Hock).
